How Winston Churchill Thought

Winston Churchill had an unusual ability to possess a far-seeing imagination while paying attention to the details.  For many of us we fall on one side of the track or the other.  However, Churchill recognized limits and had the uncanny capacity remain distant from either extreme.

He created a simple list to follow:

  • look ahead but not too far ahead
  • always concentrate on the broad view and the central features of the problem at hand
  • keep open to changing your mind in the presence of new facts
  • avoid excessive perfectionism
  • do not make a decision for decision’s sake
  • do not take action for action’s sake
  • factor in risk and chance by keeping things in proper proportion
