What I Learned About Apprenticeships

I have spent five months researching how businesses and churches do apprenticeships.

My top three findings:

  • Businesses do internships/apprenticeships better than churches.
(Plus, most businesses don’t even do them really well.)
  • This generation (Millennials) wants more than an internship. They want an apprenticeship.
(Yes, there is a difference in the vocabulary.)
  • We do not value what an apprenticeship experience offers to both the young leader and to the business/church.
(We often focus on the task and not the person.  One is a short-term approach and the other is a long-term investment.)
