How To Run Off A Good Employee

runnerI have spoken with a number of employees (especially Gen Y) in different industries about why they dislike or have already left their workplace.  The cliche phrase has a lot of truth, “Employees rarely leave companies, but they frequently leave managers.”

If you will follow the items below, you are well on your way to running off a good employee:

  • do not encourage them
  • do not care about them and their family
  • do not equip them
  • do not provide them resources
  • do not place them in their sweet spot
  • do not have a vision for them to understand and to follow
  • do not operate in your area of strength
  • do not create a team environment with their colleagues
  • do not allow their creativity to flourish
  • do not match your talk and walk
  • do not be consistent in your follow through

What items would you add to the list?

  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • email
  • Print
  • MySpace
  • del.icio.us
  • Digg
  • Google Bookmarks
  • LinkedIn
