  • 2:45 PM jasonryoung - i always love being around him-he is a great learner and pragmatist

  • 2:52 PM jasonryoung - buckingham says to have strengths be productive and weakness irrelevant
  • 2:53 PM jasonryoung - we need to stop trying to make them the perfect employee
  • 2:53 PM jasonryoung - make them the most of who they already are
  • 2:54 PM jasonryoung - the team needs to be well-rounded; we focus on the person being well-rounded
  • 2:55 PM jasonryoung - there is no i in team, but there is in win-you must focus on the development of the individual

  • 2:55 PM jasonryoung - look at talent, knowledge, skills-that becomes a strength-then leverage that
  • 2:56 PM jasonryoung - how does knowing one’s strength add value to an organization?
  • 2:56 PM jasonryoung - begin personally, then interpersonally, then team, then organization
  • 3:01 PM jasonryoung - when you compete out of your strengths you became an asset
  • 3:02 PM jasonryoung - being an entrepreneur at chick-fil-a is crucial to becoming an operator
  • 3:02 PM jasonryoung - gallup poll discovered a key question: do you have a chance to do do what you do best at work? this is a key motivator question!!!
  • 3:04 PM jasonryoung - mindset is important…ask, what’s the difference between chess and checkers? in checkers all the pieces move the same. in chess, they are all individual pieces.
  • 3:05 PM jasonryoung - your strength energizes you.
  • 3:05 PM jasonryoung - try to identify tasks that somebody can do in the area of strengths. they may be different in style but it’s the individuality that is important.

  • 3:09 PM jasonryoung - for a team member, if they don’t like to serve, they will not fit into the culture
  • 3:10 PM jasonryoung - if you need somebody to serve, make sure you find people who naturally like to serve
  • 3:10 PM jasonryoung - coach people towards their strength(s)
  • 3:11 PM jasonryoung - training comes more intuitively if they are in the right role
  • 3:11 PM jasonryoung - the strength of our people is our greatest asset
  • 3:13 PM jasonryoung - chick-fil-a uses small cards to ask what tasks energize them, etc
  • 3:14 PM jasonryoung - what are the 5 things i do the most? of these 5 which strengthens you the most?
  • 3:15 PM jasonryoung - this isn’t catering to the person-you are helping people to express their strength to be a better contributor
  • 3:15 PM jasonryoung - there are 2 kinds of leaders: habitual or situational
  • 3:15 PM jasonryoung - habitual-lead out of habit
  • 3:16 PM jasonryoung - this might be 10-15% of the population
  • 3:16 PM jasonryoung - situational-they are not really a leader, but if you identify their strengths and put them into a task they can do, they do well.
  • 3:16 PM jasonryoung - be who you already are at your very best

  • 3:21 PM jasonryoung - draw out what’s already in there versus putting in what’s missing
  • 3:23 PM jasonryoung - in your weakness, at best you will be average
  • 3:24 PM jasonryoung - how do you get employees to do part of their job they might not like?
  • 3:25 PM jasonryoung - again, focus on letting people do their strengths. quit saying suck it up and just do it. that is often the leader’s lazy way out of helping somebody find their strength.

  • 3:30 PM jasonryoung - there is a section there called: lessons learned
  • 3:31 PM jasonryoung - read a lot because you want to learn, but bring focus by narrowing it down
