  • 9:52 AM jasonryoung - there is a video being shown of a professor who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer yet lived how he wanted to be remembered
  • 9:54 AM jasonryoung - do we live with the end in mind?
  • 9:55 AM jasonryoung - there is something called the life sentence
  • 9:55 AM jasonryoung - after you die, your name will come up in conversations…how will people sum up your life in one sentence?
  • 9:56 AM jasonryoung - example: george washington-first president; michael jackson-king of pop
  • 9:56 AM jasonryoung - what’s yours? people will craft a sentence about you based on how they saw you live.
  • 9:57 AM jasonryoung - so many people are 5 miles wide and 5 inches deep-we settle for average
  • 9:57 AM jasonryoung - have you found your niche?
  • 9:58 AM jasonryoung - boomers are driven; millennials say they are “called”-what we do is more than just a vocation; i am moved from the inside and not just pressure from the outside
  • 10:00 AM jasonryoung - there are 2 great moments in life: one when you were born and the other is when you figure out why.
  • 10:01 AM jasonryoung - we must get beyond the job-because we are clueless that something is beyond just a good job and the other is there is more but we become more satisfied with just the job
  • 10:02 AM jasonryoung - the people that make a contribution do more than just a job
  • 10:02 AM jasonryoung - step out of job mode and embrace work mode
  • 10:02 AM jasonryoung - there is a difference between your job and your work
  • 10:02 AM jasonryoung - here is clarification
  • 10:02 AM jasonryoung - our job is a source of income; our work is your contribution
  • 10:03 AM jasonryoung - our job comes and go; our work remains the single common thread running through each job
  • 10:04 AM jasonryoung - doing a job makes us be a consumer; doing a work makes us to be contributors
  • 10:04 AM jasonryoung - the motivation for a job is often competition; the motivation for our work is often compassion and concern
  • 10:05 AM jasonryoung - doing your job forces you to walk a mile; doing a work compels you to walk a second mile
  • 10:07 AM jasonryoung - the goal for the job is to sell a product; the goal for the work is to solve a problem
  • 10:07 AM jasonryoung - a job enables you to make a living; a work enables you to leave a legacy
  • 10:08 AM jasonryoung - your work is almost always bigger than your job
  • 10:09 AM jasonryoung - your work is seldom just found in a job description
  • 10:09 AM jasonryoung - your work and your job may or may not have anything to do with each other
  • 10:10 AM jasonryoung - some have to do a job so they can do their work
  • 10:10 AM jasonryoung - your salary is seldom a true reflection of what you have done on the earth
  • 10:11 AM jasonryoung - money is not a monitor per se
  • 10:11 AM jasonryoung - your work will harness your creativity and resources more than your paycheck
  • 10:12 AM jasonryoung - what’s moving you?
  • 10:12 AM jasonryoung - when your work and job overlap, this is what happens:
  • 10:12 AM jasonryoung - your labor improves the world in some way
  • 10:12 AM jasonryoung - you generate revenue to give away
  • 10:13 AM jasonryoung - it gives you a platform to serve people
  • 10:15 AM jasonryoung - arthur guiness-yes, the beer guy, is s a great example of those 3
  • 10:16 AM jasonryoung - working on purpose: purpose is the moral compass that steers us toward heroism

  • 10:37 AM jasonryoung - it seems students want to change the world by the end of week, but at the end of the week they have changes their mind
  • 10:38 AM jasonryoung - start with a problem not with this would be cool to do
  • 10:38 AM jasonryoung - PASSION (probably describes the millennial gen)
  • 10:38 AM jasonryoung - the struggle is this generation has a lot of passions
  • 10:38 AM jasonryoung - what convictions are you compelled to do?
  • 10:39 AM jasonryoung - STRENGTHS
  • 10:40 AM jasonryoung - HALLMARKS
  • 10:40 AM jasonryoung - what are those markers along the way that could be signposts that are steering you into the future?
  • 10:41 AM jasonryoung - RESULTS
  • 10:42 AM jasonryoung - when you look at your activities, are there certain ones that you find greater results?
  • 10:43 AM jasonryoung - SATISFACTION
  • 10:43 AM jasonryoung - what is it that when you do it there is a deep sense of aah?
  • 10:44 AM jasonryoung - DREAMS
  • 10:44 AM jasonryoung - if you had no fear of failure, what would you attempt to do?
  • 10:45 AM jasonryoung - a key component-keep the dream alive and not allow it to be aborted because it’s hard
