I hear teenagers say, “If my parents would give me more freedom…”
I hear employees say, “If my boss would give me more freedom…”
I hear spouses say, “If my wife/husband would give me more freedom…”
I hear Christ followers say, “If God would give me more freedom…”
Do we really want freedom? And more freedom on top of that?
Maybe not.
Many want freedom because it allows autonomy, but do not want freedom because it requires decisions and accountability.
Many want freedom but fear making the wrong decisions in light of the “parameters” provided.
We have more freedom now than ever before. We have more choices than ever before.
Look at the number of choices at your grocery store. Look at the number of choices when it comes to purchasing a vehicle. Look at the number of choices when shopping for shoes. Look at the number of choices when your searching for a gas station. Look at the number of choices when required to choose a major in college. Look at the number of choices when you want a television.
However, there seems to be a pattern that people are enjoying life less. Depression is higher.
Ironic? Not sure.
Can it be that freedom of choice is not all it’s cracked up to be?
Been there?
