Did You Know This?

We do not find the segment of life called teenage years or adolescence throughout history or even clearly defined in the Bible.

We can read in the Bible that when a child was a child, they spoke as a child; however, when they became an adult, they spoke like an adult – Paul’s words.

In fact, around 1900, reform took place that pulled children from factories due to overworking and abuse, and told they must go to school (through high school).

Then, in a 1941 issue of Reader’s Digest, we find the word “teenager” arriving on scene.

Implication?

They were children and then adults.  Now, we have adolescence (the word literally means to grow up).

Expectations were once higher.  Years ago, a young teenager might do what today’s young adult might do.  Generally, we have lowered expectations.  People complain about that.

Stop!  Raise the expectation.  People adjust to expectations.  Especially this generation.
