I have had read numerous books and visited numerous places like Ritz Carlton, Chick-fil-a, Apple, Walt Disney World, and Lifechurch.tv that have a common denominator – they invest in their people. They have a people investment culture.
I remember working in a mega-church several years ago and I learned the power of investing in people. I was responsible for over 850 front-line volunteers. How could I lead them well? I selected and built up a group of about 8 people. I invested in them. I took them to Disney World where we experienced, learned, chatted about, and built our understanding of providing an encore experience. We took time to build our relationships.
We brought our experience back home and implemented numerous things in the church. There were dinners, meetings, emails, one-to-ones, visit to other churches in Florida and Kentucky. Why? I wanted to invest in them.
They in turn invested in their people and did a marvelous job creating an experience for nearly 10,000 attendees every Sunday. Does your church/organization have a people investment culture? Do you provide opportunities for every person on the team, regardless of position, some type of investment. Do you require your team to allow the investment they have received to flow to the next person around them?
Perhaps we spend too much time developing ideas and not enough developing people. What if we focused less on investing in ideas and invested more in people?
