Tentmaking by Strategy

Remember the old terminology about Paul (in the Bible) being a tentmaker?  Some use the word bi-vocational.  I mean working in the church and in an outside job-yet committed to both sides.  Historically, most pastors have done this because their church was unable to pay them a sufficient salary.

Whatever you use, the point is…will this “model” return in due time?  I mean, will we see more “church staff” personnel engage in this lifestyle?  I don’t know but maybe.  If so, this move will be out of strategy and not per se out of necessity.

In my mind, I am working through good reasons this might be a viable strategic move for a church and for the individual.

Are you seeing this happen yet?  Have you made this move yet?
